Lead Paint Removal Gets $100 Million in Stimulus
Getting rid of lead paint is a high priority for the federal government with nearly $100 million in stimulus money going toward a program to remove it from low-income homes, Vice President Joe Biden announced last week.

Biden said spending this money will ultimately save the country many times that amount in health care costs. Lead paint can cause neurological damage and slow the growth of children.

"It's unacceptable that some 40 percent of homes in this country still contain lead-based paints, the majority of which are in low-income areas where homes have not been renovated in decades," he said. "If we are truly going to revitalize our communities and help families that are most vulnerable, we need to invest that money now."
